Banjul ( GMTV2 ) : The Kanifing Municipal Council today held a launch event for a youth empowerment project worth D20 million .
The project, signed between the municipality and Supersonicz, targets three hundred thousand (300,000) young people within 12 months and seeks to help entrepreneurs to develop job skills and create job opportunities for young people.
Mr. Talib Ahmed Bensouda, Mayor of Kanifing, who spoke at the signing ceremony, said that young people are the engine of growth. The mayor Bensoda urged the youth to believe in themselves, describing the Gambia as a land of opportunity and “you must believe in yourself, and what I see here if you make a better request than yourself, you will achieve your goals.”
He called on entrepreneurs to support the country’s youth, saying if the youth have no hope of resorting to desperate projects.
Jaja Cham, Municipal CEO, challenged the region’s youth to make the best use of the project by registering their businesses so that they could win the support of these projects.
Their mission is to facilitate financial inclusion aimed at supporting the country’s youth and women, said Njundu Fatty, CEO of Supersoniz.
He said: “The Municipality Empowerment Fund and the Subersons Company is a revolving fund and our goal is to reach 300,000 people in 12 months time.”
Kemo Bojang, the council’s youth advisor, expressed his gratitude for the project, saying: “We believe this fund will be beneficial for the youth, because many young people come to the municipal fund to get the funding, and I believe that the youth will decorate this fund and achieve the best results “.
He reiterated his council’s commitment to the universality of all and that they do not believe in discrimination against people on the basis of their political affiliation or tribal persuasion.
